Zendesk alternative

The Zendesk alternative for teams that bill hours, not just close tickets

Zendesk is very good at multichannel support at scale. What it does not do is draw down hours from a contracted block, plan sprints, or let you onboard your whole team and all your clients without watching the invoice. Our support platform does.

Tickets, hour banks, sprints, knowledge base and AI agents in one place. No per-user cost.

The honest summary

If you run a contact centre with dozens of agents across voice and social channels, Zendesk is probably still your best option. If you are an agency, a product team or an IT department managing clients on hour-based contracts, Zendesk stops halfway exactly where it hurts most: billing and development.

Why teams land here

Why teams start looking for a Zendesk alternative

01

Every new person raises the bill

Per-agent, per-month pricing turns giving access to a developer, a salesperson or a client into a budget decision. You end up rationing seats and sharing logins — the opposite of the traceability you were after.

02

It has no concept of an hour bank

You can log time with marketplace apps, but there are no contracted blocks that expire, draw down automatically with each billable ticket and warn the client before they run out. That parallel spreadsheet is still there.

03

Tickets and development live apart

The bug a client reports ends up in another tool as a sprint story. Keeping both in sync is manual work, and end-to-end traceability is lost along the way.

04

AI is billed separately

AI capabilities are sold as an add-on with their own consumption. If you want AI to be part of the daily workflow rather than another variable cost line, the model works against you.

Comparison

Zendesk and Soamee, point by point

What you need Zendesk Soamee
Licensing model Per-agent monthly subscription: every seat adds up No per-user licences: same cost with 5 people or 50
Billable hours Time tracking via third-party apps, no contracted blocks Native hour bank: blocks with expiry, automatic draw-down and alerts
Product management Out of scope: needs a separate project tool Sprints, epics, stories and story points on the same tickets
Artificial intelligence Paid add-on with its own consumption Clarifying questions, sentiment, summaries and agents included
Client portal Powerful, highly configurable help centre Portal with tickets, live status, hour consumption and CSAT
Your brand for the client Help-centre theming within their framework White-label per project: your logo, colours and domain
Channels Voice, social, chat and email out of the box: its great strength Email, portal and API. Voice and social only if we integrate them
Deep customisation Marketplace apps and development on their platform Configurable states, flows, fields and permissions; the code is yours
Your data Export available within their SaaS model Full export, automated backups and deployment on your infrastructure

This comparison is based on Zendesk's public documentation and on our own experience migrating teams. Zendesk and every other brand mentioned belong to their respective owners; this page is not affiliated with them. Spotted something out of date? Write to info@soamee.com and we will fix it.

When to switch and when to stay

Stay on Zendesk if…

  • You run a contact centre with dozens or hundreds of agents and need voice, WhatsApp and social channels as standard.
  • Your support is high-volume B2C and you value mass self-service over per-client traceability.
  • You depend on very specific integrations that already exist in their marketplace and want to build nothing.
  • You need a tool running this week and cannot wait for an implementation project.

Switch to Soamee if…

  • You sell support contracts or hour banks and need to justify every hour consumed to the client.
  • The same team handles support and builds product, and you want the ticket and the sprint in one place.
  • You want to give access to your whole team and all your clients without every seat being a budget call.
  • You manage several clients and each should see their own branded portal, not your vendor’s.
  • You want the platform to adapt to your process, not the other way round, with the code and data in your hands.
Migration

What migrating from Zendesk looks like

01

We audit your current Zendesk

We review views, custom fields, triggers, automations and macros to understand what you actually use and what was left behind.

02

We map states and fields

We translate your state flow, priorities, forms and tags into the platform model, adjusting whatever does not fit instead of forcing it.

03

We import your history

Tickets, conversations, attachments, users and organisations via API or export. You start with your history, not an empty platform.

04

Parallel run and cutover

We run alongside Zendesk in read-only mode for a few weeks, train your team, and cut over once everyone is comfortable.

Compare it against your own tickets, not a generic demo

Tell us how you work today and we will walk you through the platform with your real operation: tickets, hour banks, sprints and AI agents. No commitment, no cost.

FAQs about migrating from Zendesk

Can you import our Zendesk ticket history?
Yes. We import tickets, comments, attachments, users and organisations through their API or an export. Original dates and authorship are preserved so traceability is not broken.
What happens to our macros and automations?
We review them one by one during the audit. Most translate into platform states, reply templates and assignment rules. Anything without a direct equivalent we build for you.
Do you have Zendesk’s voice and social channels?
Not as standard, and we would rather say so plainly. We work with email, the client portal and a documented REST API. If you need voice or WhatsApp, we integrate specialised services.
Is there really no per-user cost?
There are no recurring per-person licences. You onboard your whole team and all your clients without changing what you pay. Price depends on the modules you enable, not on how many people use them.
How long does the migration take?
A standard setup is live in 4 to 8 weeks, with the first modules in use from week 2. The history import runs in parallel, without pausing your support.
Can we go back if it does not work out?
You can export all your data at any time in CSV and JSON. There is no vendor lock-in on your information: if you leave, you leave with everything.
