Sesame HR alternative

The Sesame HR alternative for companies that clock in on site, not in an office

Sesame HR covers people management well: clock-in, absences, holidays, documents and performance in one place. What it does not do is organise your operation around the site, with its geofencing perimeter, its assigned crew and its booked hours. HoraTrack does.

One-tap clock-in, GPS checked against the site perimeter, and reports ready for an inspection or for payroll.

The honest summary

If your priority is digitising HR for the whole company — holidays, documents, reviews, employee portal — Sesame HR is a wider product than HoraTrack and you are probably better off keeping it. If what keeps you up at night is knowing who is on which site, with what hours and with what evidence behind them, a generalist suite falls short exactly there.

Why people end up here

Why construction companies look for a Sesame HR alternative

01

The site does not exist as a concept

You can approximate it with workplaces, projects or tags, but none of those has a geofencing radius, a status (active, paused, finished) or a crew that rotates every week. You end up maintaining by hand a structure the product does not understand.

02

Reviewing questionable entries stays manual

Recording where someone clocked in is good. What actually saves time is the system flagging out-of-zone entries on its own and letting you approve or reject them from the dashboard, instead of cross-checking coordinates yourself.

03

The reports are HR reports, not site reports

Hours per employee, absences, balances. Answering "how many hours has this site taken and who booked them" means exporting to a spreadsheet every week, which is exactly what you were running away from.

04

You pay for a full HR module

Recruiting, training, performance reviews, document signing. If your company handles the people side through an external payroll provider, you are paying for capabilities nobody is going to open.

This comparison is based on Sesame HR's public documentation and on our own experience rolling out time records on construction sites. Sesame HR and every other brand mentioned belong to their respective owners; this page is not affiliated with them. Functional scope changes over time and depends on the plan you buy, so always check their website too. If you spot anything out of date, email us at info@soamee.com and we will correct it.

No spin

When to switch and when not to

Stay with Sesame HR if…

  • You want a single tool for all of HR: holidays, documents, performance and an employee portal.
  • Your workforce is mostly office-based or in fixed locations, and site work is a small part of the business.
  • Your payroll is already integrated with their platform and switching would cost more than it saves.
  • You need absence and shift management with collective-agreement rules, not just time records.

Switch to HoraTrack if…

  • You run several sites at once and need to know in real time who is on each of them.
  • You want out-of-perimeter entries flagged automatically, not discovered by reviewing coordinates at month end.
  • You need to justify hours per site for budgeting, certification or cost allocation.
  • Your crews clock in where coverage is poor and you need the app to work anyway.
  • You want the team to learn it in a minute, with no training and no manual.
Migration

What moving from Sesame HR looks like

01

We export your history

You download your entries and your worker list from Sesame HR as a spreadsheet. That history is kept as the legal record for the previous period.

02

We create the real sites

Every workplace or project you were using as a workaround becomes an actual site, with its address and its geofencing radius drawn on the map.

03

We invite the crew

Each worker gets a link by email or phone, installs the app and lands on their assigned site. No one-by-one manual setup.

04

Overlap, then switch

You can keep Sesame HR for holidays and documents and use HoraTrack only for time records, or move across completely. We agree a clean cut-off date so payroll is never split mid-period.

Try it on a real site, not in a generic demo

FAQs about moving from Sesame HR

Can I run HoraTrack alongside Sesame HR instead of replacing it?
Yes, and it is the most common setup. Plenty of construction companies keep their HR suite for holidays, documents and office staff, and use HoraTrack only for site time records. Reports export to Excel and feed payroll exactly like any other timesheet.
What happens to the clock-in history I already have in Sesame HR?
You export it before the switch and keep it as the record for the previous period. Working-time rules require you to retain those records for years, so you need to keep that history regardless of which tool you use next.
Does HoraTrack handle holidays and absences?
No. HoraTrack does time records and site control, and it does them thoroughly. Holidays, leave, payroll and personnel documents stay wherever you keep them today, whether that is an HR suite or an external provider.
Is it legal to record my workers’ location?
Yes, within limits. Location tracking has to be proportionate, restricted to working hours and communicated to staff in advance. HoraTrack records the position at the moment of clock-in; it does not track people continuously. Check the rules that apply in your country before you roll it out.
How long does setup take?
Setting up the company and the first site takes minutes: address, geofencing radius on the map and an invite to the crew. There is no hardware to install and no collective agreements to configure. Most companies have people clocking in the same day.
