AWS IoT Core
AWS managed MQTT broker. Connects millions of devices securely with X.509 certificate authentication. Routing rules that process MQTT messages and send them to Lambda, Kinesis, DynamoDB, S3 or any other AWS service. No servers to manage, automatic scaling and pay-per-message pricing. The foundation of all our AWS IoT architectures.
Device Shadow
Virtual representation of each device state in the cloud. Todosows querying and modifying device state even when disconnected. When the device reconnects, it automatically synchronises pending changes. Essential for remote commands, device configuration and state monitoring. Supports classic and named shadows for multiple device aspects.
AWS Greengrass
AWS edge computing. Runs Lambda functions, ML models and Docker containers directly on field gateways. Local data processing to reduce latency and transmission costs. Automatic cloud synchronisation. Ideal for intermittent connectivity or low-latency requirements. Stream Manager for local data buffering with guaranteed delivery.
AWS Lambda
Serverless IoT data processing. IoT Core rules trigger Lambda functions that transform, enrich and route telemetry data. No servers, no manual scaling, pay-per-execution. Ideal for business logic: anomaly detection, derived metric calculation, alert triggering and data enrichment with contextual information.
Amazon Kinesis
Real-time data streaming. Kinesis Data Streams for high-volume ingestion (millions of records/second). Kinesis Data Analytics for SQL/Apache Flink processing on streaming data. Kinesis Data Firehose for automatic loading into S3, Redshift or Elasticsearch. The perfect buffer between IoT Core and your processing and storage systems.
Amazon Timestream / DynamoDB
Timestream is AWS managed time-series database designed for IoT. Automatic tiered storage (hot/cold), SQL queries optimised for temporal data and configurable retention. DynamoDB for device metadata, configurations and low-latency lookups. Both serverless, both scalable, both pay-per-use.
